Hi, I am very excited to be working with Harmony at Rosemary Birth Home. I moved to Sarasota in August 2007 and the first place I went was to Harmony to get connected in the birthing scene here.

A little about my myself... I met my husband in college (Kennesaw State University, in GA) while I was studying Psychology and 4 years later (summer 2002) we were married. A year after that my mom/best friend pasted away and I was ready to start my own family!! We got pregnant right away and I knew nothing about the birth world, all I knew was that I was a "natural" kind of girl. We were living in Athens, GA and home birth is not legal there so we had to find an OB for a hospital birth. Little did I know that the OB that I had picked had a 50% c-section rate!! At 30 weeks gestation I found the Bradley Method (natural childbirth class) and my husband and I took the 12 week class knowing that we didn't have that long left but we needed the tools to achieve the birth we wanted. About 5 weeks in the class my teacher suggested that I have a home birth and said there was a midwife about an hour away that would travel for the birth. My husband was super excited but I was kinda scared about that idea. He convinced me we needed to have our baby at home so we met with her. I felt so safe in her care that we made plans for her to come to our house for the birth of our first child. We had to keep our OB as well because of the legal status in GA so we had to shadow care with him (without telling him our REAL home birth plan) and dodge any kind of intervention he threw at us (like prenatal vaginal exams, induction...) . Anyway, she was born 3 days after her due date, with a 24 hour labor, at home with our Midwife Julie Martin (who now has a birthing home in Virginia). After this I was in love with birth!!! 6 months later I became a certified Bradley teacher and then when I became pregnant with my 2nd child (born at home in the water with an 8 hr labor) I was trained as a doula through ALACE (Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators). Now we are here in Sarasota and I have started working with Harmony as a birth assistant and I am so excited. I LOVE BIRTH!! I love working with the families to achieve the birth they want and I really enjoy being there for the midwife as her assistant.

Other than birth, my hobbies include cloth diapering, babywearing, cooking, knitting, camping (in colder weather) connecting with other like minded parents and having dinner parties.

I have a doula/Bradley Method website birthsbeautiful.com and the cloth diapering website babymoonflower.com.

Hope to see you at a Rosemary Birthing Home!!
